The twenty fastest muscle wagon

From the Middle Ages to the early 1970's, new cars were driving the American streets. Most of them were medium-sized cars with large block motors. At first these cars were called "super cars," and in time they were more accurate than the muscles. A quarter mile of performance standard and weekend drag-racing became very popular.

Many of these cars took over everyday tasks like resting vehicles, proud owners for work and school. But the weekend the boys are the full "amateur" dragsters. For the first time (and many argue the only time), in the history of the American automotive industry, high-performance vehicles were available to the masses. The average Joe, who could do decent work, came to the local trader and drove off a groundbreaking tire smoking car. In addition to the complicated emission control and computer chips, an average Joe could actually be proud of.

It is clear from the list of twenty fastest muscle cars that most of the beasts have domestic roots. Road Runners, Chevelles and Chargers are all basic family cruisers. What made them special, the wonderfully powerful big block engines. Even Camaros and Cudas were fair to the young man with a small toddler. Only Corvette and Cobra originally came up as sports cars.

As everyone knew this generation, the muscle car died out in the early 1970's. Increasing fuel costs, rising insurance premiums, and new security concerns were the end of the era. Today, the original muscle car is one of the hottest automotive collections. Men of a certain age aggressively apply for the youthful dreams of a car.

Take a look at the list and see who was really in the streets when the muscle cars dominated the highest. To find out more about the recent visit to Muscle Car Facts.
